Late Enrollment Penalties Explained

How Part B and Part D penalties are calculated — and how to avoid them.

Part B penalty: 10% of the standard Part B premium for every full 12 months you were eligible but didn't enroll. It lasts as long as you have Part B.

Part D penalty: roughly 1% of the national base premium for every month you went without creditable drug coverage. It's added to your premium for life.

If you had qualifying employer coverage, you may have a Special Enrollment Period that avoids the penalty entirely. We help you document it correctly.
